Zach Hillesland, a 2009 University of Notre Dame graduate, has written for The New York Times and Sports Illustrated, but not before he took a Sports and Television class with fellow Strong of Heart contributor Karen Croake Heisler—the person who convinced him to write in the first place. Zach currently resides in Chicago where he’s found work as a barman at Three Dots & a Dash. Originally from Toledo, Ohio, he earned four monograms with the Irish men’s basketball team and served as a team captain as a senior in 2008–09.
